Games: How to install Armagetronad on Fedora Core 6

fedora

Armagetronad

What is Armagetronad ?

"A Tron clone in 3D"

This has been the tagline of Armagetron, since, well, a very long time, and is probably the shortest and most accurate description possible. Tron was an arcade game based on the movie of the same name, release by Disney in 1982. The original game consisted of 4 sub-games, the only one of concern is the 'Light Cycles' one, in which the player uses a left/right joystick to control a 'Light Cycle' which leaves a wall behind it wherever the cycle it goes, turning only at 90 degree angles. The player must then get the AI to crash into their wall while avoiding hitting the AI's own wall themselves. Those were the humble beginnings of Armagetron Advanced's game play, which has now blossomed into 16 player mayhem, with highly advanced AI, network game play, and of course all in a 3D environment.

For more information, please visit: http://armagetronad.net/

How to install Video Game Emulators on Fedora Core 6

fedora

First of all, you need add a new repository into yum configuration file:

shell> rpm -ivh http://dribble.org.uk/repo/dribble-release-5-1.noarch.rpm

Dribble provides packages with a focus on fun software that is not already found in Fedora Core, Fedora Extras or Livna because they do not meet their stricter requirements. Dribble concentrates on multimedia, games and emulators yet is not limited to these genres. The repository aims to provide support for FC-5, FC-6 and FC-7 (devel) across all three architectures (i386, x86_64 and ppc) and will not replace any packages found in Core, Extras or Livna. The packaging guidelines and review process of Fedora Extras is closely followed to give you the same high quality packages you've come to expect.

Now, choose your emulator:

dega-sdl - Dega/SDL is a linux port to the original Dega Sega Master System / Mark III / Game Gear emulator for DOS.

FakeNES - FakeNES is an Open Source NES emulator. It uses the excellent Allegro multimedia library for input, graphics, and sound effects/music across various platforms. It is written in 100% C, and was originally designed to run on DOS and Microsoft Windows, but now features a POSIX build system as well. There are also official builds available for Mac OS X.

gcube - A Nintendo Gamecube emulator which uses SDL

gnuboy - gnuboy (all lowercase) is a portable program for emulating the Nintendo GameBoy Color software platform. gnuboy is Free Software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. Our goal is to provide a great emulator that runs on many platforms and is accessible for everyone's enjoyment.

mupen64 - Mupen64 is a Nintendo 64 (N64) emulator designed to run on multiple operating systems. In its current state, the emulator is highly compatible and uses a plugin system. With the correct plugins ("correct" can be computer dependent), it can achieve nearly perfect graphics and sound in many games.

mupen64-ricevideo - An OpenGL based graphics plugin for use with the Nintendo 64 emulator called Mupen64

yabause - Yabause is a Sega Saturn emulator. A popular console of the early 1990s. It includes an 'emulated' Saturn BIOS which is compatible with at least some games but optionally a real Saturn BIOS can be used, however it is not included.

zsnes - This is an emulator for Nintendo's 16 bit console, called Super Nintendo Entertainment System or Super Famicom. It features a pretty accurate emulation of that system's graphic and sound capabilities. The GUI enables the user to select games, change options, enable cheat codes and to save the game state, even network play is possible.

To install:

shell> yum install -y packageName ( e.g: zsnes )
